Audio Implications of Dynamic Adaptive Content Streaming

In transitioning from linear broadcast to streamed distribution of live content, the rigid ATSC standards-based rules for audio shift to a more fluid model that can accommodate more devices and multiple concurrent audio streams and codecs, but where ad hoc practices do not guarantee consistent quality or support for the original program format. We will examine how dynamic adaptive streaming works and discuss the implications for audio in both the opportunities it creates and the manner in which current practices can fall short.
