Barbara Lange is principal and CEO of Kibo121, a boutique consultancy firm focused on guiding media tech organizations on their path to sustainability. This includes understanding each client’s unique needs and interests to develop a plan of action that accomplishes those goals. Lange has been an invited speaker at industry events such as the NAB Show, SVG, IBC, SMPTE, and Streaming Media West. She is also actively engaged in the industry groups developing a greener future in media, including Greening of Streaming, SMPTE’s working group on sustainability in media in the cloud, the IABM, and the NAB Show. Lange is a member of the International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP).

Prior to launching Kibo121 in 2022, Lange completed 12 successful years as the executive director at SMPTE, the global professional association that supports the technical framework and professional community which makes quality motion imaging available to consumers in a variety of media formats. She was responsible for executing the SMPTE Board’s strategic vision to ensure continued relevance in a fast-paced global media technology ecosystem through membership networking, education, and standards development activities.

Prior to her role at SMPTE, Lange had a career in business/product management in scholarly publishing, and held executive positions at the IEEE, the world’s largest technical association. She holds a B.A. in chemistry and German from Washington and Jefferson College and completed the Executive Development Program at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Lange has been recognized for her leadership by Washington & Jefferson College, the IEEE, StudioDaily50, and with the TVNewscheck’s 2020 Woman in Technology Award. In 2021, she was honored by TVB Europe as a 2021 Technology Leader to Watch and by Broadcast & Cable with the 2021 Tech Leadership Award.
