James Cowdery is a senior staff architect in the Entertainment Group at Dolby. He joined Dolby in 2004 as the founding member of the team responsible for delivering licensing kits for audio content production and distribution. During his time as engineer and manager of Professional Licensing Engineering, Cowdery has been involved with many aspects of Dolby audio technologies in a professional context such as Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby E, and Dolby AC-4. Since becoming an architect at Dolby, Cowdery’s main focus has been on new technology for live broadcast audio applications such as SMPTE ST 2110 and Serialized ADM.
Cowdery also works closely with broadcasters and partners worldwide towards the roll-out of Next Generation Audio experiences.
Prior to Dolby, he worked at Nokia and Philips as a DSP Software engineer. Cowdery graduated from the University of Surrey in the UK and resides in North Yarmouth, ME.
