As director of media operations and technology, Joe Zappala oversees the NBA’s editing systems, and leads research and development of the NBA’s ingest, transcode, archival, and distribution solutions.

Over the past three years, Zappala has taken the NBA’s editing capabilities from completely on-premises to largely remote and hybrid. He has played a key role in building integrations with the NBA’s Archive, Content Network, and Virtual Content Factory. For three seasons, Zappala has designed and lead the initiative to build the NBA2K league archive in the cloud on the NBA’s Content Network.

Before joining the Media Operations and Technology team, Zappala spent 10 years in the NBA’s digital media operations group, where he oversaw all ingest and archive operations.
